G1 for 30 Days

I've bought the G1 Android phone from T-Mobile in the U.S., and I have 30 days to figure if I wanna keep it.

If you have feedback, I'm at marc@disquiet.com.

By the way, this is my main website: disquiet.com. It's broadly about personal technology, but specifically to the extent that technology mediates music and sound and related art.

Countdown, 16 Days: Tether, Bluetooth, Future

So, it’s a Tuesday, and I’m free to wander about. My snazzy G1 has a fast connection, courtesy of T-Mobile.

But, if I head to a cafe, I can’t tether my laptop to it.

And, I can’t use it as a serious data-entry device, because it won’t connect with external Bluetooth keyboards.

Which leaves me with two questions (I’m still going to leave the house, presuming the rain slows).

1. Will those two concerns be addressed in the relatively near future?

2. Will another phone (Android, yeah, but perhaps another OS) appear near enough on the horizon in the next 15 days, and tempt me to drop the G1?

Yeah, I know I could tether to a laptop somewhat illicitly, but doing so would void the T-Mobile terms of service, and that would probably mean I couldn’t return the G1, so I’ll leave the tethering to Day -1, presuming I keep the device.
